The Dekati® Fine Particle Sampler is a guaranteed solution for diluting and conditioning aerosol and gaseous samples for measurement instruments. This versatile dilution system allows dilution factor adjustment between 1:20 and 1:200 and first stage dilution temperature settings between 0 and 350 °C. Temperatures and pressures in different parts of the dilution probe are measured in real-time enabling second-by-second dilution factor calculation, which takes changes in raw sample properties into account. The dilution factor calculation result is saved in real-time along with temperature and pressure data in an easily accessible form for post-processing of the data. This two stage dilution system features unmatched versatility with applications reaching from engine pre- and post after treatment measurements to combustion research and nucleation studies.

Engine exhaust measurements

The Dekati® Fine Particle Sampler is a guaranteed solution for diluting and conditioning aerosol and gaseous samples for measurement instruments. In engine exhaust measurements, the FPS is typically used with the first dilution stage heated to efficiently remove volatile compounds from the sample. The system can be directly connected to engine tailpipe both before and after exhaust cleaning devices.

  • Connected either to a tailpipe or into a CVS tunnel

Stationary source emissions

Dekati® FPS can be used in stationary source (i.e. power plant) applications as a dilution system for any and all particle and gaseous measurement devices. The robust stainless steel construction makes the FPS-4000 an ideal solution for the harsh conditions associated with stationary source measurements.

The FPS extracts the raw sample from the source ( i.e. exhaust or flue gas) by using a stainless steel probe. The sample is subsequently diluted in two stages employing perforated tube and ejector diluters, respectively. The dilution factor in both dilution stages can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the amount of dilution air fed into the dilution stages.

Primary diluter

The primary dilution takes place within a perforated tube, where the raw sample mixes with dilution air forced through small pores in the perforated tube walls. The perforated tube is housed within the primary diluter body, which can be heated or cooled. The dilution factor of the primary dilution stage can be adjusted by changing the dilution airflow into the primary diluter.

Secondary diluter

The secondary dilution stage is an ejector pump, which draws the sample from the primary dilution stage and dilutes the sample further. The diluted gas exiting the ejector diluter is always at ambient pressure and temperature regardless of the initial raw sample gas characteristics. The dilution factor of the secondary dilution stage can be adjusted by changing the dilution airflow into the secondary diluter.

Other features

Temperatures and pressures in different parts of the dilution probe are measured in real-time enabling second-by-second dilution factor calculation, which takes changes in raw sample properties directly into account. The dilution factor calculation result is saved in real-time along with temperature and pressure data in an easily accessible form for post-processing of the data. Analog output of the dilution factor is also available for easy integration into existing data logging systems.

Pressurised air filtration and drying units

When aerosol sample is diluted for particle measurements, it is important that the dilution air is dry and particle free to avoid unpredictable problems caused by water condensation and impurities’ effect on the measured particle concentration. Dekati’s DI-1010b and DI-1032 pressurized air drying and filtration units can be used to condition the pressurized air used for dilution in the DEED, Dekati® FPS, Dekati® Diluter or the Dekati® Axial Diluter. Both units include particle and oil filters to remove impurities from pressurized air. DI-1010b unit uses a molecular sieve and silica gel for drying while DI-1032 has a membrane dryer to dry the air.
