ELPI™ for measuring air quality 

One of ELPI™’s main applications is air quality studies. In fact, a modified version of the standard ELPI™ has been developed specially for outdoor air measurements. This version of the ELPI™ is called the Outdoor Air ELPI™, and it has been used in numerous ambient air quality studies for determining particle concentrations in different environments. ELPI™’s advantages are its capability of detecting short and long time-scale changes in the particle concentrations and size distributions, and the option for analyzing the size classified particles for chemical composition after the measurement.

The Outdoor Air ELPI™ can be used continuously without user operation for about a month, after which the collection foils are changed. Outdoor Air ELPI™ features a humidity and temperature sensor implemented in the ELPI™ charger – the ambient air conditions are saved in the Outdoor Air ELPI™ data file. The system also recovers from short power failures and can be operated without an external laptop. More information on the use of ELPI™ for air quality studies can be found here.
